Sin

 

     I have met people who have religious or philosophical beliefs that do not recognize the existence of "sin".  To them the virgin birth, perfect life, propitiatory death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is almost meaningless!  If there is no such thing as SIN, then there is no condemnation, no guilt, and no need of a Savior/Deliverer!

 

     Romans 5:13 says "(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law...."  Sin must have something to do with breaking, violating, or transgressing the Law!  Oh no!  Every nation, or state, or county, or city;  every religion has "LAWS" of some kind!  Every culture, every individual person has expectations that mimic laws and rules!

 

     What is right or wrong in some laws under one authority will "break" some laws under a different, or higher, authority?  Either everyone is a sinner, or no one is!

 

   An illustration:  If you begin with the  laws of the smallest municipality, you will find that they are superseded by State laws, which are superseded by federal laws, which may soon be superseded by international laws.  The law that supersedes all human laws is divine law, exclusively the domain of the God of the Bible. 

 

If that God truly is God, He has given the ultimate Law.  If you are human, you have broken that Law by some behavior and by being born through Adam's (of Genesis fame) race.

Opinion

I THINK... Truth Must Be Revealed!
     No one knows everything.  In fact, no one knows enough to make a truly informed decision about anything.  Mostly, people project strong opinions which may be based on the strong opinions of very renowned individuals who also don't know enough to make truly informed decisions about anything! 
     We are so ignorant as to be unaware of the affect of what we don't know on what we think we know now!  Discovery of any kind, in any field, leads to the discovery of mostly predictable but mysterious processes that beg discovering!  Boredom occurs only to those who are ignorant of their ignorance. 

WHAT WE NEED...
     Is there someone who does know everything?  Complexity lies beneath every complex system or process we discover!  The complex inter-dependence of the larger system (s) of which we are a small part is intellectually stunning!  We are left to creating speculative models that inadequately explain information that was selected out of all we know because it is compatible with a particular ideology or opinion.
     Ideology (bias, prejudice, opinion) supercedes information.  Information is filtered and selected to fit presuppositions.  Complexity may be the result of elemental predestination, or of an intelligent designer.  Elemental predestination may even be a creation of an intelligent designer as a managerial tool!  How can we know?  We cannot know anything, and we need to know, without discovering a final authority to tell us so.

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?
     Perhaps we should gather as much evidence as we can, and then investigate it without any opinions to prejudice us.  We ought to test and question the validity and pertinance of every test and question we apply to every declaration of every "authority" for trustworthiness.  That's too much work for most people.  Even sampling critical declarations, fundamental issues, ought to be done.  It must be done with a critical eye on our own biases.  Are you, for instance, seeking to know, or seeking to influence? 

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?
     The way I understand prejudice is that it throws out information, ideas, and persons, deleting some considerations because they don't agree with what a person wants to find.  I wonder if any research can be unbiased!  We hope to be aware that we are biased and prejudiced, and resist interpreting information while we gather it.
"Just the facts!"  It may be impossible for human beings to simply gather facts!  We cannot restrain our urge to assign either meaning or meaninglessness to everything based on our knowledge of almost nothing!

 

TRUTH MUST BE REAVEALED!

      This ends the search for absolute truth.  Absolute truth either does not exist, or it is not discoverable by searching, which may be the same thing!  If truth exists, it must be revealed by whomever it is that has it.

Wisdom 

[As] a jewel of gold in a swine's (pig's) snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.                                 Proverbs 11:22
 
This proverb describes a woman of excellent beauty and pleasant voice, but who is without taste, flavor, or judgment; without decision, discernment, discretion or reason. 
 
People do not discover who they are.  They decide who they are.  The person described in that proverb has decided to make a particular presentation, a public image to display (as a manequin in a store window).  Pause and think about it.
 
Why not make a list of personal qualities that you want to describe your own character?  Discriminate (in the same manner that you choose sweet over bitter, spicey over bland) between what is good and what is bad!  Discriminate between what is excellent and what is merely acceptable.

You get the point, don't you?
 
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.  Prov.18:2
...or "in revealing his personal opinions"...  So, here a person looks deep into his, or her, own miniature pin-hole views in order to form an opinion about everything!  A person must purposefully PUT good ideas and values in!  There is an important difference between having opinions and having good counsel! 
 
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.                  Philippians 4:8
 
Yes, a person can be both beautiful and wise.  Generally, however, people prioritize one or the other and not both. 
 
Take charge of yourself!  Don't let other people determine your worth.  Your worth has already been determined by the price Jesus Christ paid to redeem you.  You are now worth what He was willing to pay!
 
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
