FIRST REVELATION

By

The Apostle John

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke give us an historical and chronological record of the life of Christ.  Many Study Bibles include a “Harmony of the Gospels”, which reveals the similarity of those three accounts, and the different purpose of John.  The apostle John unveils Jesus Christ as the Son of God in humility (The Gospel of John) and in power (Book of Revelation).

We will examine the Gospel of John, the First Revelation of Jesus Christ, by applying the definition and demands of faith.  Remember that Faith trusts the character and ability of Christ and commits oneself into His keeping.

2 Timothy 1:12.

 (1) for I know whom I have believed, and

(2) am persuaded that he is able to keep that which

(3) I have committed unto him against that day.

We will seek to answer two questions throughout our study of the Gospel of John.  Those questions are:

A.             What does each chapter reveal about Jesus’         character or characteristics, motives, and              abilities?

B.             What does each one indicate that you could          confidently commit into Jesus’ care?

What do you want Jesus to do FOR you?  What do you want Him to do IN you?  What benefits or changes in your life do you expect FROM Him?  Have you ever had your expectations disappointed?

What have you committed TO Him?  What do you think Jesus wants FROM you?  Have you ever disappointed Him?  If you do not fully trust Him, what is holding you back?

I think that it is time for us to meet Him and fall in love with Him afresh!

 The Gospel Of John

Chapter One

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

What, and Who, is this Word?  What did the Word do?  Consider Hebrews 1:1-3, and Colossians 1:15-17.

1.   Who is Jesus Christ and what did He do? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

2.   What can you commit to Him? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

1.   What did Jesus do?  What characteristic is revealed by His action?  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

2.  What can you commit to Him based on that? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1.  Describe Jesus as He is revealed here. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . 2.  What can you commit to Him here? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1.  Who is Jesus and what does He do? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

2.  How should you respond to this? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

3.  What will you commit into His keeping right now? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.
